The second edition of BSides Reykjavik took place this Saturday 18 May. This event was sponsored by Öruggt Net ehf and Darknet ehf, two young IT consultancy firms that are eager to shake up the market and make a positive contribution to the cybersecurity landscape in Iceland.

Some of the talks were:

  • Can DNS be made secure? by Einar from ISNIC, the .is domain name registry
  • Planes, Ferries and Automobiles – How I hacked free travel across Iceland by Stefán from DuckDuckGo
  • Secure and Private by Design: Plang programming languageby Ingi, founder of bland.is, a leading classified platform in Iceland
  • Lord of the Risks: Incident Response dilemmas and: The pursuit of exfiltration: Lessons learned from a Threat Huntby Fabian Olender from Salesforce

BSides Security is not your typical IT security conference where you get charged hundreds or thousands of dollars for attendance. It is a community-driven by and for information security people, whether they are professionals in the field or just curious people. Tickets are priced affordably to make it an inclusive place and bring together people who otherwise might never come (and maybe miss out on a great opportunity to meet people and learn new things).

We would like to extend a warm thank to the speakers without whom the event would not be possible, and the organizers: Sigurður Gísli Bjarnason, Hjörtur Pálmi Pálsson and the kitchen angels.

Last but not least, we want to thank the attendees for their commitment to the talks – this was a lively and highly interactive session.

We look forward to the next edition, possibly by the end of this year. Stay tuned for more.
